Sweet Dreams Little One

I could watch Jordyn sleep for hours. She is so cute and always holds her hands up to her face. She loves to sleep on her side and has occasionally maneuvered her body all the way on to her tummy. What can we say she is quite advanced for being one week old! Cory picked out her pj's and they are so cute on her.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when her and I get to cuddle and take a nap together on the couch. The other day I woke up and our noses were touching. I absolutely love being her mom even though it has been more of an adjustment than I thought it would be, I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. She truly is sent from heaven.

I could hold her and kiss her ALL day long! And sometimes that is exactly what I do.

Bath Time

Jordyn definitely does not take after her mommy in the fact that she HATES bath time. She just cries and cries. To make matters worse her bottom lip quivers constantly, which is enough to break my heart.

Jordyn's Exciting Entrance into this World

On October 24th 2008, Cory and I played around with the idea of driving to Arizona. You see my whole family was going there to see my nephew Kaleb get blessed. I really wanted to see my family but after talking about it on that Friday night we decided it probably wouldn't be a good idea.

Cory woke up bright eyed and ready to go at 7:00 AM. I was thinking "why in the world is he awake so early on the only day he gets to sleep in?" I rolled over and said "if we are already awake and have nothing to do then lets get in the car and head to Phoenix!" We got showered and ready and were in the car by 9:30 AM.

We didn't tell any of my family that we were coming so they were quite surprised when they walked into the house and we were sitting there. It was so nice to see them and spend the weekend with them. The blessing was awesome and it was nice to know that I would see my parents fairly soon to welcome our little girl.

Cory and I got into the car at about 3:00 on Sunday afternoon to make the seven hour trip home. Little did we know it would be the longest ride of our lives! We had been in the car for about five minutes when I felt like I had peed my pants. I turned to Cory and said "promise you won't be mad? I think my water just broke!" That is when we got stuck in traffic for an hour. In that hour we called our midwife and asked her what we should do. She was pretty ticked that we went in to first place. She said that I needed to get penicillin asap because of my GBS. She suggested that we stopped at the Flagstaff Hospital and either stay there and have the baby or ask if they would give us the first dose of antibiotics and send us on our way. We got to Flagstaff and I had not had one contraction. The doctor said that he strongly suggest that we stay there and have the baby. I was SO overwhelmed with the doctors and nurses in my face telling me what to do that I just broke down and started to cry. Cory turned to me and said "Gen, what is your motherly instinct telling you what to do?" I told Cory that I didn't feel like she was coming anytime soon and I thought that I could make it 4 1/2 more hours to Albuquerque. We quickly left the hospital and started to drive as fast as we could to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital and 12:30 AM. I stood up to get out of the car and I felt a gush of water. I was soaked all the way down to my knees. We walked in and got checked in. Our midwife happened to be on duty that night; she walked in the room and said "My wayward travelers! What in the world were you thinking?" We were quite embarrassed to say the least. They started my IV and immediately followed with the penicillin. I still had not had one contraction.

The midwife decided to give me a pill that would hopefully start contractions. NO LUCK! At about 9:00 AM (Monday morning), they decided that with my water broken and my GBS that they needed to induce my labor. They started the pitocin.

My contractions started small but they kept coming into the room and upping the dose of pitocin. They started at a level 2 and told me that they could turn it up to a level 20! When I got to a level 12 I couldn't handle the pain anymore.

Cory was the sweetest thing I have seen. He did anything and everything for me and I kept falling more and more in love with him.

At 2:30 PM I asked for the epidural. I was so scared to get it but it really wasn't that bad. More awkward than painful. Thank heaven for epidurals; within 20 minutes I felt nothing. Cory and I started playing cards, watching TV, and sleeping. At this time I had only dilated to a 3.

Jordyn's heartbeat kept going all over the charts so they had to come and rotate my positions every so often to get it to go back up. Let me tell you it is really hard to move when you can't feel a THING. I felt so funny and Cory would have to come and help me lift my body.

I think that it was about 6:00 PM when I had dilated to a whopping 5. Things seemed to be taking FOREVER. At 8:00 PM I got to an 8. And things started to progress fairly quickly. At 11:00 PM I started to push and continued to push for an hour.

Jordyn made her entrance at 12:03 AM on October 28, 2008. It was an amazing feeling to watch my husband and I become overwhelmed with joy. And see that in that single moment our lives were changed forever. We are so grateful for Jordyn and her sweet spirit. She is a really good baby and we couldn't love her more.

Pretty in Pink

We finally got to bring Jordyn home after about 108 hours

in the hospital! Here she is in her homecoming outfit. It was about 10 sizes too big.

I will post about the delivery later; it is quite a LONG story. Here is a little sneak peek... Cory and I made the stupidest choice and drove to Phoenix on Saturday morning. Needless to say we got in the car to drive home on Sunday and my water broke in the car, with a seven hour drive in front of us! To be continued...

Saturday Morning Project

What do you do on a Saturday morning when you get up at 6:00AM to go to the bathroom and can never fall back asleep? Well you get on the internet, learn how to make a tutu for your little girl, go to Hobby Lobby and get your supplies, and make two darling tutus!

I have a lady in my ward who is taking Jordyn's newborn pictures for free. So we have been gathering ideas of what we want. I knew that I wanted to get some of her in a cute little tutu; so I started looking to buy one on the internet. I was absolutely blown away when I saw that people were charging $30-45. I thought I would have to just settle for not having any pictures with a tutu. Boy was I wrong! I am going to let you all in on a little secret... I made these tutus for $3.00!!!

And right here I need a short minute to vent! The lady who was cutting my stuff at Hobby Lobby was driving me crazy. Here is our conversation...

Her: "What are you going to make with this?"

Me: "Tutus for my little girl"

Her: "Oh how old is she?"

Me: "She will be here in two weeks."

Her: "She doesn't live with you?"

Me: "No I am pregnant (if you can't see my ginormous stomach) and I am due in two weeks."

Her: "You are going to put a tutu on an infant?"

Me: (Getting a little annoyed) "Yep!"

Her: "What is her name?"

Me: "Jordyn"

Her: "Silly me I thought you said you were having a girl!"

Me: "I am."

Her: "Since when is Jordyn a girls name? I mean I guess if you say it is then it is right!"

Me: (REALLY ANNOYED) "Yep!"

Oh my, maybe I am just easily irratated but this bugged me so bad.

I really don't think Jordyn is that uncommon for a little girl. I guess I was wrong!
